General Summary
Under general supervision, supervises all maintenance and service employees in a division on an assigned shift in the maintenance, repair and cleaning of coaches, buildings and other related equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervises the work of maintenance employees engaged in the servicing, maintenance and repair of diesel and/or gasoline powered transportation vehicles.
- Subject to general direction, coordinates and schedules work on a daily basis on an assigned shift.
- Gives instructions relative to work orders and repair work.
- Communicates and coordinates with other supervisory personnel on work processes to ensure continuity.
- Inspects repair work during progress and upon completion.
- Decides upon the necessity for replacement of parts.
- Makes recommendations and enforces Authority safety policies.
- Checks records prepared by subordinates.
- Makes and/or monitors requests for supplies of materials and parts.
- Monitors records of time, materials and parts utilized and makes reports thereon. Inputs and withdraws information from the automated fleet maintenance system.
- Represents the Authority at first step of the grievance procedure.
- Maintains friendly and cooperative relations between employees and management.
- Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Education equivalent to graduation from a four-year trade or vocational high school.
- Six years experience in repairing and maintaining diesel coaches and gasoline powered automotive equipment. Supervisory experience preferred.
- A valid Michigan Driver’s License is required.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License with proper endorsements within thirty (30) days of appointment.
- Considerable knowledge of the methods of planning and laying out of maintenance work.
- Ability to prepare reports and maintenance records.
- Ability to use a computer terminal.
