The Job:
SmartStart Education seeks student support advocates to work in a school office Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 3:30pm beginning as soon as possible and ending on June 30, 2025. Flexibility for after school hours on an as needed basis is expected.
The Student Support Advocate will work closely with the Assistant Principal (AP) and school staff to support students with attendance concerns and mitigating food insecurity. Key responsibilities include:
Attendance Support
- Monitor daily attendance data to identify students at risk of or currently experiencing chronic absenteeism.
- Conduct outreach to students and families to understand and address the root causes of absenteeism.
- Develop individual attendance improvement plans in collaboration with families and staff.
- Coordinate home visits, phone calls, and virtual check-ins to maintain consistent contact with identified students.
- Work closely with counselors, administrators, and social workers to implement tiered interventions.
- Conducting home visits when necessary
Food Insecurity Support
- Identify students and families experiencing food insecurity through referrals, surveys, and direct outreach.
- Connect families with available school-based and community food resources, including food pantries, backpack programs, and emergency support.
- Collaborate with school nutrition services and community partners to increase access to meals outside of school hours.
- Support initiatives that promote awareness and reduce stigma related to food insecurity.
Student & Family Engagement
- Serve as a liaison between the school and families, building trust and encouraging active participation in school life.
- Facilitate family meetings, workshops, and events focused on attendance and wellness.
- Support transitions for students returning from extended absences.
Data & Reporting
- Maintain accurate documentation of interventions, supports, and communications with families.
- Track attendance and food support data to measure impact and inform future strategies.
- Participate in school-based data team meetings and contribute to action planning.
Qualifications
Qualifications:

Associate's Degree (required); bachelor’s degree (optional).

Bilingual proficiency in Spanish HIGHLY PREFERRED.
