SmartTalent is looking for a Human Resources Generalist (Onboarding & DOT) to fill a Contract Role (2-4 Months)
Location: Lacey, WA
Job Type: Full-time, Contract (2-4 months)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week
Pay: $26-$28 hourly/DOE
About the Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Human Resources Generalist for a temporary 2-4 month contract with one of our clients located in Lacey, WA. This role will support HR functions, focusing on onboarding, compliance, and DOT driver qualification processes. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, have strong communication skills, and maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Onboarding & Compliance: Coordinate all aspects of the new hire process, including background checks, drug screenings, and weekly orientation sessions.
- HRIS & Employee Records: Maintain electronic and physical employee records, process job changes, and respond to HR system inquiries.
- DOT Compliance: Manage DOT driver qualification files and ensure adherence to FMCSA regulations.
- Administrative Support: Prepare payroll change sheets, create security access cards, and assist with policy-related employee inquiries.
- HR Projects: Support various HR initiatives, projects, and events as assigned.
What we’re looking for:
- Experience: 2-5 years of HR experience, ideally in a Generalist or HR Assistant role.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Excellent organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Office-based, full-time schedule.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands for fine manipulation.
- Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
