Temporary Cargo Support Specialist
SmartTalent is seeking a temporary Cargo Support Specialist to work full-time at one of our client’s terminal locations in Tacoma. This position is full-time on-site work. The ideal candidate should have experience with hazardous materials as described below.
Working Hours:
· 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday
Pay Rate:
· $21 to $25 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
· Review and approve hazardous shipments based on 49CFR standards and input hazardous materials information into the back-office system. Provide clear guidance on regulations and requirements to customers.
· Collaborate with terminal operations to address capacity challenges, prioritize shipments, and assist with trailer booking counts to support planning.
· Manage southbound notifications and scheduling, while coordinating northbound shipments of loads and empties to meet customer demands.
· Address and resolve any terminal issues at the main entrance.
· Reconcile the totals for northbound trailers and vehicles following each sailing.
· Deliver outstanding customer service, resolving concerns for both internal and external stakeholders.
· Maintain communication with customers and vendors to address any issues or questions.
· Track equipment needs and customer inventory based on booking levels, releases, trailer tracing, customer profiles, and trans loads.
· Work with the Terminal Manager and Longshoremen to oversee yard activities.
· Manage booking processes, including issuing and canceling, as well as coordinating appointments with customers and vendors.
· Complete other tasks or projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Associate’s degree preferred.
· One to two years of experience in customer service, ideally within the transportation industry.
· Knowledge of DOT 49CFR HazMat Carrier Requirements (Water) is a must.

· Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal.
· Good mathematical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Capable of multitasking and managing competing priorities.
· Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
· Proficient in using standard computer software, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Additional Information:
· This position requires obtaining a TWIC, which the client will help cover & facilitate with the process.
