The Security Management team at SmartThings is seeking a summer intern who is excited to learn and contribute to our core services. Our team is responsible for authentication and authorization controls, developing core APIs critical to ensuring everything inside the SmartThings Platform is secure. You will be working with a world-class team of engineers who are passionate about what they do; each team member has an insatiable hunger for learning new technologies and improving existing ones. We are seeking an intern who shares our passion and is eager to make an impact.
About The Role
We are looking for knowledgeable and motivated individuals with an interest in software development, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-based microservice architecture. In this role, we offer opportunities to write and test code in Java, Scala, and Kotlin; contributing to core systems used by all service teams across the organization. You will gain experience in service development, code reviews, application monitoring, debugging, and fixing issues. You will learn and uphold strong security principals and be a steward of our systems.

This position is a hybrid role, based onsite 3 days a week at our office in Minneapolis, MN.

- Contribute to various microservices that support our cloud platform
- Receive mentorship from senior engineers
- Participate in code reviews
- Participate in service deployments
- Participate in operations reviews
- Participate in design discussions
- Develop and maintain microservices at scale
- Completion of internship experience powerpoint presentation on program end date

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)
- Pursuing education in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline
- Ability to complete a 11-week internship (June - August 2025)
- Experience with an object oriented language such as Kotlin or Java
- Experience with Git
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Organization and time management skills
- Self-starter who is eager to learn new languages, frameworks, and technologies
- Cloud experience
- Experience with NoSQL databases
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
