About The Team
The Client API team at SmartThings is seeking a summer intern who will embed within our friendly and collaborative team to enhance core platform functionality at SmartThings. There will be opportunities to commit code to some of our most critical services, as well as to learn from talented senior engineers. You will also be given the flexibility to innovate, design, and make suggestions on some of the complex problems we are challenged with.
About The Role
We are looking for knowledgeable and motivated individuals with an interest in software development, CI/CD pipelines, system design, and cloud-based microservice architecture . You will have the opportunity to contribute to a platform that is composed of mobile apps, embedded devices, mesh networking, and cloud-based microservices.
Key Responsibilities
This position is a hybrid role, based onsite 3 days a week at our office in Minneapolis, MN.
In this role, your primary responsibilities will include the following:
- Add features to the platform and various microservices related to the app platform, which drives our internal, developer, and partner integrations
- Embed within our established team and utilize technologies including AWS, Docker, MySQL, DynamoDB and others!
- Receive mentorship from senior engineers
- Participate in the code review process
- Design, develop, and maintain microservices at scale
- Completion of internship experience powerpoint presentation on program end date

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)
- Pursuing education in the area of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Ability to complete a 12-week internship (June - August 2025)
- Experience with an object oriented language such as Kotlin or Java
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Self-starter who is eager to learn new languages, frameworks, and technologies
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
