About the Role

SMC is seeking a highly motivated and results-driven individual to join our Procurement group as a buyer for Cape Girardeau location. This position requires a detail-oriented individual to learn our business processes and establish daily, weekly, monthly purchase orders with our vendors to stock at our various locations. This person will work within a collaborative, team environment and will play a significant part in the ongoing growth of the company.

This position is based in-office at our Cape Girardeau location.

Responsibilities of the Buyer

• Process and Place Purchase orders utilizing our business system and best practices on purchasing levels.
• Work with all branch managers and manage ordering controls as needed.
• Monitor nonstock orders and evaluate for stock conversions.
• Maintain ordering controls.
• Maximize inventory turns within financial limitations of each branch inventories.
• Attend daily team meetings to support each other at separate locations.
• Stock rotations
• Process Rush orders
• Answer phone calls on general Purchasing extension

• Strong communication and organizational skills – Can establish and maintain interpersonal relationships.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Good attention to detail for accurate purchase orders
• Strong interpersonal skills to work with all team members, branch managers, inside sales, product specialists, and product vice presidents.
• Strong work ethic
• Willing to take on tasks as directed by
• Willing to offer suggestions/new ideas to improve work progress
• Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making ability – analyze information and find the best possible solution.
• Previous buying experience is preferred

Pay: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
