Job Summary:  We are seeking a driven and strategically minded Senior Sales Executive to lead business development efforts for our aseptic fill/finish solutions. This role will be responsible for identifying, pursuing and closing new business opportunities while managing and growing existing customer relationships. By blending market intelligence, technical acumen, and consultative selling, you will contribute to expanding our market share in pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. This role is the primary liaison between our customers and SMC. Ideal candidates are located near a major metropolitan area with proximity to an international airport.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

New Business Development:

  • Identify and target new opportunities, focusing on small biotech startups through large pharmaceutical companies.
  • Develop and execute sales strategies that emphasize our unique value propositions in sterile fill/finish, process development, and GMP clinical and commercial manufacturing services.
  • Analyze market trends and funding flows to uncover emerging opportunities in the aseptic fill/finish space.
  • Attend industry events (e.g., trade shows, conferences) to network and generate leads.
  • Leverage personal and professional networks, CRM tools, and market intelligence platforms to identify and qualify high-potential prospects.
  • Leverage technical knowledge to communicate the benefits of aseptic fill/finish solutions to customers and potential customers. 
  • Create strategic and tactical account plans aimed at achieving revenue growth, targeting customers that fit SMC’s capability profile.  

Client Relationship Management:

  • Build strategic relationships with key decision-makers, including C-suite executives and technical leads at client organizations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor by understanding client challenges and proposing tailored solutions that align with their objectives.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams (e.g., R&D, operations) to ensure seamless onboarding and ongoing client satisfaction.
  • Facilitate contract negotiations, including crafting and securing development and supply agreements.
  • Understand customer needs to provide a unique SMC value proposition vs. the competition.
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with current customers, ensuring needs are met and identifying opportunities for growth and additional sales.

Sales Intelligence:

  • Research and monitor competitor activities, industry trends, market dynamics, and regulatory developments to inform sales strategy.
  • Develop lead nurturing programs and collaborate with marketing teams to improve outreach effectiveness.
  • Qualify leads early in the sales cycle to prioritize opportunities and allocate resources effectively.

Internal Collaboration and Reporting:

  • Work closely with internal teams, including technical experts and operations, to craft compelling proposals and pricing strategies.
  • Collaborate with other business units to identify cross-selling opportunities across technologies and services.
  • Maintain accurate records of all sales activities and pipeline management in CRM tools like Salesforce.
  • Provide regular sales forecasts, market insights, and performance reports to senior leadership.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Business, Engineering or related field 
  • 5 years of sales or business development experience in pharmaceutical or biotech industries, with a strong emphasis on sterile fill/finish or CDMO services.
  • Strong technical understanding of aseptic filling processes, GMP standards, and sterile dosage forms.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills with the ability to influence senior decision-makers.
  • Ability to analyze funding sources, market trends, and client pipelines to strategically position services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce).
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets in a technical sales role.
  • Previous experience working directly with customers to understand their business drivers and objectives.
  • Demonstrated solid decision-making skills combined with ethical business conduct.
  • Proven negotiating skills to facilitate contracts and close business.
  • Exceptional communication and persuasion skills to communicate both externally and internally.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience in primary containers and/or medical device manufacturing.
  • Previous experience using Sales Force.

ADA Requirements:

  • Typically sits, grasps items and performs keyboarding for frequent operation of a computer
  • Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about regularly
  • Lift, move, or otherwise transfer items up to 40 lbs. occasionally, >20 lbs. frequently
  • Occasional exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards
  • Travel by air or car frequently ~35%
