Job Summary: To develop optimum molding processes and tools for manufacturing medical components through support and leadership in the development process. Provide recommendations and implement improvements to production processes, methods and controls that ensure effective solutions are achieved on time and within budget.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure internal and external customer expectations are met relative to the quality of the part, product, and / or assembly.
- Develop and maintain safe work practices.
- Perform research, design and development of manufacturing processes and new technologies for Production needs.
- Provide direction and guidance to the assigned team as it related to process, maintenance or development.
- Develop, document and implement standard manufacturing processes and methodologies in a manner that meets customer contracts and company internal profitability expectations.
- Prepare and provide status reviews as needed.
- Manage process development and recommend improved manufacturing processes or methods for cost reductions, quality improvements and efficiencies.
- Support a team culture where all participating employees feel engaged, involved, supported, and challenged to meet or exceed expectations.
- Work with various teams during the entire development cycle and may ensure new mold sampling prior to production.
- Actively engage in Tool Design Reviews and recommend improvements to optimize molding, setup, and overall manufacturing.
- Troubleshoot molding and manufacturing processes, equipment, and material issues while working with internal / external resources to resolve molding / manufacturing issues with long-term solutions.
- Research, develop and implement manufacturing process controls, machinery modifications and improvements.
- Provide input on new or alternate materials for cost reduction or molding improvements.
- Perform Design Of Experiments (D.O.E.’s) to determine root cause(s) of complex process problems and develop robust process windows.
- Performs other duties as required.
Essential Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field and a minimum of five years of experience in plastics engineering; OR a two-year post high school diploma/certificate and nine years of experience in plastics.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills, including written communication.
- Experience implementing decoupled molding processes and scientific molding techniques.
- Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods including workflow, layout, assembly and production equipment.
- Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Demonstrated team player
- Excellent problem solving skills with attention to detail.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Previous leadership experience.
- Certificate in RJG Master Molder or similar.
- Experience with multi-cavity molds and runner-less systems.
- Experience within the medical device industry.
- Previous experience with lean manufacturing concepts.
ADA Requirements:
- Stand, walk, bend, squat, twist, reach or otherwise move frequently
- Occasional repetitive motion and grasping
- Occasional climbing to reach areas on machines or racks
- Lift, move or otherwise transfer up to 50 lbs. occasionally, >20 lbs. frequently
- Typically sits, grasps items or performs keyboarding for occasional operation of a computer
- Exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards which may require respiratory protection
- Up to 20% travel by air and / or car
