As a growing regional environmental engineering, restoration, construction and maintenance company founded in 2002, SMC is seeking a Survey Crew Chief to assist in leading our expanding Survey Division. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual who desires increasing responsibilities in surveying, management, and marketing for a variety of project types. Based north of Baltimore in Sparks, Maryland, your assignments will typically be located throughout the Baltimore/Washington region.

As a Survey Crew Chief, you will play a crucial role in overseeing field operations, ensuring accuracy, processing field collected data and contributing to the success of diverse surveying projects. The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects involving various aspects of private and public sector projects both within our company and outside partnering companies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead field survey crews in conducting various types of surveys including boundary, topographic, construction stakeout and as-built surveys.
• Mentor field and office personnel.
• Assist with proposal/contract preparation.
• Operate and maintain surveying equipment such as total stations, RTK, data collectors, etc.
• Ensure adherence to project specifications, safety guidelines, and surveying standards.
• Interpret survey data, perform calculations, and prepare accurate field notes.
• Collaborate closely with Project Managers and clients to achieve project goals and timelines.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 8-10 years of experience as a Survey Crew Chief or equivalent role.
• Experienced with survey computations
• Proficiency in using surveying instruments and software (AutoCAD, Carlson, etc.).
• Dependable, team and goal oriented, client focused and forthright in resolving issues.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and supervise survey crew members.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary, team-oriented environment.
