The Position This position is responsible for coordinating and providing support as the college faculty use technology throughout their work, especially as they enhance their teaching and improve student success. The Instructional Technologist assists in the operations of the college’s Distance Education (DE) program, which includes support for face-to-face (FTF), hybrid, and online learning; provides related technical training, and supports the college’s DE web presence; coordinates and conducts technical workshops on the use of the course management system and other instructional technologies; assists faculty in the design and development of instructional content used in FTF, hybrid, and online courses; provides training and support to students, staff, and faculty to assist them in the development and improvement of their technology skills and works collaboratively with the staff and administration responsible for technology-enhanced instruction and learning as well as college professional development activities. A high degree of independent judgment and creativity is required to adequately represent the college and program, to serve as a technical resource person for the program, and to design original program components and services. Consequences of errors in judgment can be costly in public relations and in employee time; however, management controls limit the risk of more serious consequences. The Instructional Technologist may lead the work of student assistants and other staff as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. - Assist faculty with course design, course development, learning objectives, classroom management, active learning, assessment methods and strategies with a primary focus on online and web-assisted courses
- Support the learning management system, Canvas
- Work with designated staff, faculty and administrators to develop, modify, or implement training programs on web-based course development, technology-mediated instruction, and concepts of online course delivery to be delivered via a face-to-face setting (group or individual consultation), video, within the course management system, or online
- Create partnerships and provide leadership and support for faculty and staff in implementing effective pedagogy and use of technology to support teaching and learning
- Maintain currency in knowledge and trends related to teaching and learning and application of technology to enhance teaching and learning of diverse populations
- Develop and maintain the Distance Education program web presence
- Co-chair the Distance Education and Educational Technology Committee
- Coordinate with counterparts at the District and sister colleges
- Must be flexible and be available to support evening and weekend instructors
- Coordinate and work closely with the College’s Professional Development Coordinator
- Assist in the incorporation of multimedia instructional course content materials including images, video, audio and digital library materials using sound instructional design and pedagogical principles
- Create documentation on internal procedures and prepare reports
- Assist with assessment efforts, grant and research projects, including conducting faculty and student surveys and data analysis
- Assist in the organization and coordination of conferences, symposiums, and other faculty-oriented technology programs
- Collaborate with departmental / area staff and participate in required meetings
- Assist faculty with understanding and meeting accessibility compliance requirements for online courses and digital learning content
- Work with external partners, corporations, community, and business representatives
- Keep current and make recommendations to the dean on educational best practices, instructional resources, and instructional technologies to support teaching and learning
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Physical Requirements This classification requires the ability to communicate to exchange information in person and on the telephone, ability to operate standard office equipment, including keyboard and mouse, sitting and standing for extended periods of time, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 20 lbs.
