Position Summary
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the Maintenance Manager for a Steel Fabrication Shop is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all equipment, machinery, and systems critical to the fabrication processes. This includes metal fabrication equipment, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, instrumentation, and PLC-controlled machinery. The role demands technical expertise in all maintenance aspects of a production environment, including troubleshooting, repairs, upgrades, and preventive maintenance. The Maintenance Manager will work closely with production teams to minimize downtime, improve efficiency, and ensure safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Planning and Execution
- Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance strategy for all equipment and systems with scheduled preventative maintenance that align with production schedules.
- Lead emergency and corrective maintenance for equipment failures or breakdowns, identifying root causes and ensuring timely resolution.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment history, and repair logs.
- Manage external suppliers and contractors for specialized repairs, services, and parts procurement.
Team Leadership and Development
- Supervise and lead a team of maintenance technicians and specialists to ensure work is completed efficiently and to the highest standards.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, guidance and training to enhance skills and maintain performance levels.
Technical Expertise and Problem Solving
- Possess in-depth knowledge of metal fabrication equipment, such as CNC machines, welding machines, cutting machines and stamping presses.
- Perform upgrades, retrofits, and installations for machinery and systems.
- Oversee troubleshooting and repairs, diagnose and resolve issues to ensure equipment and machines are running at peak efficiency.
Budgeting and Resource Management
- Manage the department’s budget, ensuring the efficient use of resources, including spare parts, tools, and equipment.
- Control costs associated with maintenance activities while ensuring the necessary resources are available for repairs and replacements.
Qualifications
Required:
- 5-10 years of experience in maintenance management within a manufacturing or fabrication environment, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role.
- In-depth knowledge of metal fabrication equipment, such as CNC machinery, welding and cutting equipment, presses, and other related tools.
- Proven expertise in electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and instrumentation systems.
- Deep understanding of equipment maintenance best practices, including predictive and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to develop and manage maintenance budgets and control costs.
Certifications:
- Certification in Electrical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, or Instrumentation fields (e.g., NEC, OSHA, HAZMAT, or others).
- First Aid and Safety Training (OSHA, HAZWOPER, etc.)
Preferred:
- PLC Programming Certification (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.) is a significant advantage.
