The Dental Assistant must demonstrate our high standard of customer service and achieve customer satisfaction through a continued commitment to excellence. This position is responsible for pediatric and orthodontic clinical duties, laboratory work, and maintenance of these areas. This Team Member’s goal is to warmly greet and ensure patients and their families feel welcome and comfortable in our office. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively with others on the Team.

Essential Duties

· Prepare, clean, disinfect, and stock patient treatment areas

· Perform coronal polishing, flossing, and fluoride application

· Take bitewing, periapical, panoramic, cephalometric x-rays on pediatric and adult patients

· Take orthodontic photograph and dental radiographs

· Apply sealants

· Assist dentist with fillings, crowns, extractions, space maintainers

o Includes being prepared and anticipating dentist needs during dental procedures.

· Prepare patient for orthodontic bonding

· Fit orthodontic bands

· Obtain impressions and use 3-D iTero scanner

· Pour stone models

· Fabricate retainers

· Educate patients and families on oral hygiene and orthodontic home care

· Clean and sterilize instruments

· Enter, update, and maintain accurate dental records in dental software

· Monitor inventory and order dental supplies

· Perform preventative maintenance on dental equipment

· Work efficiently to maintain an on-time schedule

· Maintain a clean and organized office at all times

· Must be willing to cross train in front office duties to maintain a continuity of operations during busier times and understaffing

· Work well with other Team members: Collaborate positively and utilize positive communication with other Team members to cultivate a harmonious and efficient work environment

· Attend Team Meetings, always contributing and striving in an effort to continuously improve the quality of all aspects of the practice

· Attend local community fairs, visit local schools and pediatrician offices, and other community events to support the local community

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Skilled in the use of standard dental office equipment including: Autoclave, model trimmer, X-ray machine - Pano, Panoramic X-ray, ultrasonic, Oxygen and Nitrous Oxide, Laser, Intra Oral camera, Vacu-press, and hand pieces.

· Knowledge of cross contamination and how to prevent it.

· Knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA regulations and changes.

· Ability to take radiographs, including FMX, Pano and anterior PA’s.

· Knowledge of English composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

· Knowledge of Spanish composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation (preferred). Skilled in the use of standard office equipment including: telephones, calculators, copiers, fax, computers, and computer software (MS Excel, Word, Practice Management software).

· Ability to maintain composure and professionalism when exposed to stressful situations. Ability to engender trust from the doctors, co-workers, and patients.

· Ability to work cooperatively with management, staff, and patients.

· Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete tasks in a timely and independent manner.

· Ability to accept constructive criticism.

· Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

· Ability to collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and maintain confidentiality.

· Ability to communicate and express thoughts and ideas competently.

· Ability to quickly grasp relevant concepts regarding duties and responsibilities.

Requirements:

· Enjoy children and always exhibit patience

· Clean and professional appearance and attire

· Available 7:30am-5:30pm Monday – Friday

o Every effort is made to accommodate a lunch daily, but in unusual circumstances a lunch break may not always be provided

· Pass Background and Drug Screening

· Expanded Functions Dental Assisting Certification

· State of Florida Radiology Certification

· CPR certification

· Follow standard operating procedures and all HIPAA and OSHA guidelines

Preferred:

· Bilingual (English and Spanish)

· Orthodontic certification

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

· May be required to lift up to 35 lbs. or to roll a 90-pound machine on wheels from one area to another.

· Hand-eye coordination and hand, arm, and finger mobility for detailed work with objects.

· May be required to physically assist/lift drowsy patients after anesthesia.

· Active movement throughout the day: sitting, walking, standing, squatting, bending, stooping, reaching, etc. (not a sedentary position).

· Vision: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

· Hearing: able to satisfactorily communicate with patients, doctor, and other staff members to ensure that verbal communication is clearly understood, particularly during emergency situations.

· Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or operate equipment.

· May be required to administer CPR.

· Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and radiation. Exposure to moderate noise levels.

· Exposure to hectic, fast-paced, high anxiety environments.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
