This is a fully in office position located in Houston, TX.
Smith is looking for a Global Trade Compliance Analyst to join our Houston based legal team. With a reputation of 40 years of excellence, Smith is leading the way in electronic component distribution. Our diverse portfolio of pieces can be found in consumer electronics, medical devices, solar, and aerospace and defense, and much more. Our 21 offices range from Silicon Valley, New York City, Munich, Shenzhen and Shanghai, with hubs in Amsterdam and Hong Kong. This role will continue aligning our trading and legal teams to build a line of defense that safeguards Smith’s business and maintains both customs and customer’s trust alike.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and apply US export regulations (regarding GPUs, HBMs, encryption, classification, licensing, FDP), sanctions and imports to remain compliant with international trade laws that impact Smith’s business
- Research and verify ECCNs, HTSUS, and Schedule B’s for compliance, with focus on semiconductors and electronic components
- Conduct KYC due diligence through denied party screening and end use verification
- Identify red flags to management
- Support and audit AES filings and export documentation
- Audit and suggest corrective action to keep processes compliant and provide annual International Trade Compliance training on changes
- Assist in trade compliance investigations by providing submissions and disclosures to the US government as required
- Stay current on new international trade laws, rules and regulations for multiple areas of Smith’s business and communicate these internally
- Work alongside the export licensing / quality control team to maintain data integrity within the CRM regarding export requirements (EAR, ITAR, ECCN, HTSUS, sanctions and tariffs)
