JOB TITLE: Senior Staff Accountant
STATUS: Exempt/Salary
TYPE: On -Campus/ Hybrid as permitted by Supervisor
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Business Accounting
Purpose
The Senior Accountant provides support and works closely with the Executive Director of Business Accounting and Accounts Payable Manager in managing the day-to-day operations of the Business Accounting Office and is responsible for the oversight of accounting processes, records, and reports. This includes responsibility for bank and general ledger reconciliations, supporting the monthly close cycle, the year-end close cycle, internal and external audits, business filings, and all related reconciliations. The Senior Accountant works closely with the rest of the accounting team and liaisons with the functional heads of other departments.

Education / Qualifications / Competencies
- Bachelor's degree required. CPA or Master's degree is a plus.
- Three to six years of bank reconciliation experience.
- Minimum of five years of experience in financial accounting at a complex and diverse organization required (experience in higher education is strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, problem-solving, organization, and presentation skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving dynamic environment which demands strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrates well-developed accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP and FASB pronouncements.
- Familiarity with financial and procurement systems; QuickBooks and Procurify is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products. The ability to execute Excel functions like index, vlookup, sumif/sumifs, pivot tables.
Accounting processes including:
- Complete daily cash reporting and monthly reconciliation of multiple cash accounts. Daily tasks include running bank account activity reports, positive pay, and identifying wire/ACH/EFT/check direct banking activity, collecting related wire/ACH/EFT paperwork and coding banking and processing cash receipts for direct banking activity. Update QuickBooks bank reconciliation module daily for cleared checks and other posted activity.
- Perform month-end and fiscal year-end closing activities, including the preparation of work papers for the annual external audit.
- Perform monthly general account reconciliations duties. Research and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner with minimal guidance.
- Review subledger detail (Orbund) to general ledger and correct errors as necessary.
- Maintain fixed asset and capital lease equipment schedules and record monthly depreciation.
- Maintain prepaid and accrual worksheets and record monthly journal entries.
- Reconcile cash clearing accounts and work with student accounts to correct errors as necessary.
- Reconcile operating lease schedules and record monthly adjustment.
- Ensure that all journal entries, workpapers, reports and work processes are thoroughly documented and that proper files are maintained.
