What are the responsibilities and job description for the Apprehension Officer position at Smith County?
The Smith County CSCD office is seeking applications for a full-time Apprehension Officer who will perform investigative work and make arrests within and outside the CSCD office. By means of promoting fair and impartial treatment and protecting the community through the use of controlling and correctional strategies designed to assess and manage risk. CSCD employees are expected to use professional courtesy, discretion and sound judgement when engaging in any contact with clients, co-workers, court personnel, and other employee and the public.
Hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or as duties require. Monday-Friday. Salary is $58,000 with a competitive benefits package. - Maintain files on all defendants classified as absconders and transferred to each unit.
- Prepare and maintain records that the Department requires to monitor and to file reports with the courts.
- Make arrests on behalf of the Department on Revocation of Probation warrants, as well as on sight violations committed in the peace officer's presence.
- Perform due diligence checks on offenders who have absconded from probation.
- Utilize computer systems required to ensure an active warrant is available.
- Attend court hearings as needed
- Any other duties assigned by the Supervisor or Department Director.
- Must have one year or more experience in criminal justice or related field or any combination of education and experience in human services or criminal justice field.
- Knowledgeable of current state laws, court directives, and Department polices and procedures and apply them to case management or other situations as they develop.
- Person selected for this position are peace officers, and their commission will be carried by the Smith County Sheriff's Office and must meet all requirements set forth by the Smith County Sheriff's office for their commission to be carried by said office.
- Required to complete and maintain continuing education training mandated by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
- Coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to attempt to locate absconders and facilitate their arrest.
- Apprehension Officers are further responsible for maintaining confidentiality of information, maintaining professional relations while engaging in job related tasks, cooperating with others to resolve conflict and achieve goals, and maintaining a pleasant attitude.
- Must be a US citizen or have legal immigration status.
- Must read and write English fluently.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all types of people.
- Must have strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Must have at least a high school diploma or GED.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver's license.
- Must be a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Certified Peace Officer in good standing.
