What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic II position at Smith County?
The Mechanic II operates heavy equipment for the purpose of vehicle repair, modification and preventative maintenance for the Road and Bridge department.
- We are seeking an energetic Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team, who can change direction at a moment’s notice to maintain all mobile equipment to include but not limited to repairs, diagnosis, and troubleshooting
- Must be able to service and make in-depth repairs on various types of heavy construction equipment and may include large trucks and passenger vehicles as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
- Disassemble/Reassemble heavy and mobile equipment to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair
- Enter data for repairs, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, inventory check out and time
- Must be able to service and repair equipment in the field as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
- Fill in other areas as needed
- Heavy equipment repair specialization with some light equipment repair experience.
- Disassemble/Reassemble heavy and mobile construction equipment to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair
- Must be able to Metal fabrication, utilize oxygen and acetylene torch, Mig / stick weld and braze
- Diesel Certification required
- Air Conditioning Certification or equivalent required
- Hydraulics Systems troubleshooting repair required
- Troubleshoot, repair and test all equipment to ensure functionality
- Must understand schematics to troubleshoot 12&24v heavy equipment systems
- High School diploma or G.E.D. (completed or in progress)
- At least 5 years of experience in equipment service and repair field.
Licenses and Certification
- Must have a valid driver's license
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, bend, pull, reach and lift and carry items weighing 40lbs or more in an outdoor environment with exposures to severe extremes in weather.
Salary : $52,727 - $59,804
