Responsibilities
- Accurately code medical diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10, ICD-9, and DRG coding systems.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies and government payers in a timely manner.
- Review patient medical records to ensure all necessary documentation is complete for billing purposes.
- Resolve discrepancies and denials by communicating with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and billing regulations.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality and data security.
- Generate billing reports and assist in the analysis of financial data related to billing practices.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing or a related role within a medical office setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical coding systems (ICD-10, ICD-9) and DRG methodologies is essential.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare reimbursement processes.
- Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, providers, and insurance representatives.
