Job Title: Safety Specialist
Department: Safety
Reports to: Corporate Safety Manager
Status: Non-Exempt
Purpose: This position will work directly with the Corporate Safety Manager, Operations, and Administrative departments.
Position will support safety compliance as required by applicable regulations and written programs, through regular contacts
with operations personnel as well as routine inspections of the facility operations and other assigned facilities.
Essential Functions:
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and Safety management systems developed by SIS.
  • Assist in managing worker's compensation, loss prevention, and general liability insurance issues as directed by the
Corporate Safety Manager.
  • Create and track safety-related objectives, metrics, and goals for the organization.
  • Investigate incidents or near-misses and lead root cause analysis.
  • Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Conduct employee training on applicable safety standards.
  • Review safety training and recommend revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Conduct routine workplace safety inspections to identify potential hazards.
  • Observe workers to ensure compliance with on the job safety procedures.
  • Perform safety audits per company policy and compliance requirements to keep the safety program on track and
avoid potential fines.
  • Collaborate with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Maintain and update the written procedures contained in Safety Management System as needed and conduct or
coordinate activities necessary to maintain compliance.
  • Track the completion of all corrective actions generated through incident investigations and audits.
  • Report potential issues or concerns to the Safety Manager via proper channels and policies.
  • Work when scheduled and comply with the company attendance policy.
  • Participate in and demonstrate an understanding of safety principles and practices; follow all safety policies and
procedures (e.g., the wearing of safety glasses, earplugs, face shields, etc.) to support a safe working environment,
including safe operation of machines and equipment.
  • Attend all safety and health training, as required.
  • Observe and practice all safety procedures and policies as per OSHA and company SOPs.
Marginal Functions: (Duties that are likely to be assigned to this person unless they prove unable to perform them after
receiving training and/or accommodations that the company judges appropriate.)
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Travel will be required to visit regional offices and job sites
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: (these are required to enable job holder to perform the job's essential functions.)
  • Must have knowledge of OSHA standards and federal safety legislation.
  • Must possess solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices in the workplace.
  • Must be familiar with writing health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Must be proficient in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
  • Must be able to lift 75-100 pounds.
  • Must be able to enter confined spaces such as close quarters, crawl spaces, manholes, and other areas which
could cause claustrophobia for cleaning purposes.

  • Ability to make substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and stand for sustained periods.
  • Ability to move about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to
another.
  • Ability to see within normal range with or without corrective lenses.
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the day.
Experience/Education: At least 3 years experience in an industrial or construction field. Experience in safety management
is preffered,. A bachelor's degree in safety management, environmental safety, or a similar field preferred. Must be able to
pass a drug test along with a background and motor vehicle check.
Specific Licenses: Valid State-issued Driver's License and ID required. OSHA 30HR in General Industrey or Construction
is required. A certificate in occupational health and safety management is preffered.
Work conditions: Industrial setting, outside environment, exposure to extreme temperatures and elements possible;
exposure to hazardous chemicals possible; extended periods of standing; climbing; ability to use handheld radio/phone.
