Job Summary
Maintenance and Custodial Assistants at Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse help to maintain the building and grounds to provide a clean, healthy, attractive and safe public facility at Smith. Maintenance Assistant’s primary responsibilities will be interior and exterior cleaning of the Playhouse. Assistance with the landscaping and playground upkeep is required. The Maintenance Assistant reports to the Director of Facilities & Operations and Assistant Manager of Facilities and Visitor Services. Teamwork and effective communication with coworkers and supervisor is expected.
Essential Functions
- General cleaning, basic maintenance and repair for the playground and playhouse.
- Ongoing assignments include: dusting, washing windows, taking out trash, cleaning restrooms, sweeping, mopping.
- Assistance with regular rounds throughout the building and grounds multiple times a day to maintain the highest level of cleanliness and safety for Smith’s visitors. Respond to requests from the Visitor Services Manager as needs arise.
- Care for outdoor landscaping including collecting trash and litter, weeding, watering, mulching, pruning, leaf raking, composting, sweeping walkways; snow shoveling , spreading sand and salt during slippery conditions.
- Along with the Site Coordinator supervise volunteers for ‘Days of Service’ and strategize projects appropriate for the groups of volunteers
- Assist with the tracking of supplies inventory needed for maintenance of Playhouse and Playground operations (paper products, cleaning supplies, gardening supplies and tools)
- Prepare set up for special events and clean up during and after.
- Follow weekly and monthly maintenance tasks list.
- Other assignments may include: light carpentry work, cleaning drains, checking and replacing hardware (knobs, cabinet doors, and hinges, etc.), painting and general repairs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
