Ready Mix Concrete Quality Control Technician

We have immediate openings for concrete quality control technicians in St. Joseph and Elkhart Counties. These positions are full time positions with competitive salaries and benefits. We will train suitable applicants without previous experience.
Job Summary:
The primary responsibility of this position is to monitor and administer the Quality Control (QC) Program, as it applies to assigned projects to ensure that materials on construction projects are in compliance with plans and specifications. The successful candidate will be in excellent physical shape, hard working, extremely dependable and will be willing to work in labs, travel to our various plants and to the job sites in company vehicles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Arrives at the plant or job site prior to the first concrete delivery.
- Performs the initial and ongoing testing of aggregate and concrete for gradation, moisture, slump, air content, temperature.
- After evaluation of the above tests, maintains contact with plant operations and/or QC, to ensure that necessary adjustments (if required) to the mixture are made.
- When required, make concrete cylinders at the job site or at the plant; break cylinders in our lab.
- Compares that value to the design value to ensure compliance with specifications.
- In the Field, observe, record field test data, other jobsite activities and communicate with all the appropriate individuals/agencies.
- Have the flexibility to rearrange schedules with little notice.
- Is able to work Saturdays, night pours and overtime hours as required.
- Understand the various components that make up the product and how they interact with one another.
- Understand how to troubleshoot the various problems that occur with the product and how to correct them.
- Understand the proper techniques for testing concrete.
Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills
- High school diploma
- Some college or trade school preferred but not required
- At least one-year ready mix or construction industry experience preferred but not required
- ACI Level 1 preferred
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Physical Demands :
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, equipment, tools or controls; perform repetitive movements with hands, wrists or feet; and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee frequently is required to walk and stand; talk or hear; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and drive a vehicle.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
- Specific hearing requirements include the ability to hear phone conversations, in-person conversations under normal office conditions, signal warnings while operating and/or working around moving equipment; and the ability to differentiate operating equipment sounds.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Employee must be able to frequently wheel barrow approximately 3 cu. ft. of concrete.
