Smithers PDS LLC (Pharmaceutical Development Services) brings new drugs to market by providing pre-clinical and clinical services for all phases of drug development. PDS works with customers to develop new methods, validate existing methods, as well as performing the assays necessary to analyze samples from patients on more than 100 clinical trials.
PDS is seeking a Lab Support Technician to work in our Ewing, NJ site. This role will perform routine instrument maintenance according to established SOPs, ensure stock for general lab consumables, create and submit orders for projects, and review data. Must be able to work independently as well as in a team setting. Must be able to communicate and coordinate efficiently to meet deadlines.
Salary for range for this position is $19.39 - 24.23 per hour. Salary and job title will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position is hourly and non-exempt. High School diploma, 2 plus years’ prior relevant experience and at least 12 months laboratory experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficient with basic computer applications such as email, MS Word and Excel.

Reviews laboratory workload and prepares schedules in conjunction with laboratory manager.
- Independently performs equipment maintenance (daily – annual) as per SOPs.
- Schedule and coordinate equipment calibration/preventative maintenance to be performed in-house or by vendor technician.
- Receives and logs in daily shipments and stores appropriately.
- Obtain quotes, submit requisitions for lab and project supplies.
- Notifies Project Managers and/or Laboratory Supervisor of quality issues and documents appropriately.
- Ensures adequate inventory/supplies are stocked for lab use.
- Prepare wash buffers for equipment maintenance.
- Maintain glassware.
- Assign and track storage for critical reagents in refrigerators and freezers according to established system.
- Ability to function effectively in a team-oriented atmosphere. Works independently when necessary.
- Documents activities and records observations regarding sample preparation in accordance with GLPs, SOPs, and protocol.
- Ability to produce high quality data while working under the pressure of strict deadlines.
- Independently reviews data, performs laboratory QC of equipment logs and identifies potential problems.
- Recognizes deviations from normal situations and results, resolves problems within area of expertise, and informs supervisor when the problem is outside of their scope, experience, or authority.
- Responsible for recommending process improvements and/or revising SOPs/Forms.
- Responsible for training lab personnel.
- Independently responds to client/QA audits and documents deviations.
