What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Scientist position at Smithers Careers?
SUMMARY: Provides analytical mass spectrometry support to internal and external customers, especially structural identification and elucidation utilizing GC/MS. Assists in designing laboratory studies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists in generating study proposals and protocols and effectively scheduling studies.
• Maintains appropriate communication with project managers throughout study execution.
• Prepares reports and directly communicates with clients to ensure project expectations and deadlines are met.
• Prepares samples and standards for analysis utilizing a variety of sample preparation techniques.
• Analyzes samples utilizing appropriate analytical techniques, especially GC/MS.
• Fully and properly documents all laboratory work according to applicable customer requirements.
• Peer reviews laboratory notebooks and reports as prepared by other lab staff.
• Assists in the maintenance and qualification of laboratory instrumentation.
• Miscellaneous laboratory duties such as inventory, equipment calibration, housekeeping
• Keeps abreast of current scientific advancements relevant to the business.
• Develops and oversees development of new test methods with existing and new instrumentation and equipment.
• Has hands-on experience and capabilities with analytical laboratory test equipment including complex set-ups.
• Conducts offsite meetings with clients.
• Utilizes outside testing facilities as needed.
• Represents company at various industry events, such as conferences, trade shows, webinars, etc.
• Authors, and/or presents industry white papers.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, plus 5 years of relevant experience required.
• Advanced degree in Chemistry, plus 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Familiarity in the use and maintenance of GC/MS instrumentation preferred.
