Smithers is seeking a full-time Associate Chemist I at our cannabis testing facility located in Darien, IL.
The Associate Chemist I performs critical sample processing and extraction duties to prepare cannabis samples for analysis. The Associate Chemist I enters sample information in the laboratory information management system (LIMS) to facilitate subsequent analysis. The position is responsible for maintenance of laboratory stock reagents. Operates and may maintain, under supervision, test equipment and apparatus.
A. Job Duties
Essential Functions :
1. Cannabis sample processing of flower, concentrates, extracts, and infused products.
2. Cannabis sample extraction & dilutions.
3. Routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrument calibration.
4. Wash glassware used by the laboratory.
5. Accurate entry of sample data into LIMS.
6. Production of laboratory reagents and stocks.
7. Additional duties as assigned.
Marginal Functions :
1. Lift up to 60 lbs.
2. Be able to work more than 8 hours per day, on occasion.

B. Chemical Safety
1. Must be able to comprehend the potential hazards of the chemicals in use and adhere to the proper safety techniques as dictated by the Safety Manual and / or Management.
C. Laboratory Safety
1. Must be able to wear gloves, lab coat, eye protection, sleeves, hearing protection, pesticide suit, plastic booties, dust masks, a respirator, and a face mask.
2. Must be able to understand and follow laboratory safety standards.
Job Specifications
- B.S. degree in chemistry or related field and 6 months of laboratory experience, or 3 years of relevant laboratory experience in lieu of a degree.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must be able to pass the Cannabis Control Commission background check for Laboratory Agent registration.
- Previous laboratory testing of cannabis a plus.
