Trust Fund positions are unique to the Smithsonian. They are paid for from a variety of sources, including the Smithsonian endowment, revenue from our business activities, donations, grants and contracts. Trust employees are not part of the civil service, nor does trust fund employment lead to Federal status. The salary ranges for trust positions are generally the same as for federal positions and in many cases trust and federal employees work side by side. OVERVIEW
This position is located in the Office of Real Estate, Office of the Under Secretary for Finance and Administration, Smithsonian Institution. The Office is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing the real estate and space management program for the Smithsonian Institution.
This position serves as the Senior Real Property Advisor assisting the Associate Director in assessing and resolving complex realty issues for the Office and the Smithsonian Institution and in supplying expert advice and guidance to all managerial levels concerning these realty problems and issues.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as the senior realty expert and advisor responsible for planning and executing major projects and asset program plans.
- Serves as the program manager for all SI real property related matters, including transactional matters, space allocation, future property requirements, and financial oversight and tracking of real property.
- Serves as a consultant for collections facilities, providing oversight of collection facilities (leased and owned) and pan-institutional strategic planning and management.
- Provides expert technical advice on specific tasks on real estate matters.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Experience required for this position is as follows:
- Knowledge of practical management principles and practices in conjunction with policies, regulations, and procedures on required real estate inputs to programming, planning, acquisition, design, and construction.
- Knowledge of a broad range of administrative laws, policies, regulations, and precedents applicable to the real estate.
- Skill and ability in maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external customers to effect program strategy.
- Skill and ability in written and verbal communications to explain/defend the status of real estate planning, make presentations, attend meetings, etc.
