Position Title: Administrative Assistant Community Advocate
Reports to: Executive Director
Classification: Non-exempt
Hours: 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday
(some evenings and weekends may be required)
Location: Office based in Cornelius/Smithville neighborhood and some local community sites
Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Administrative Assistant Community Advocate will provide administrative support to the Executive Director and staff, manage social media accounts and content, and create monthly newsletters to strengthen relationships within the Smithville community. The ideal candidate will be a vital member of the SCC team, serving as a bridge that connects individuals, information, resources, and opportunities to promote collaboration in addressing needs, preserving assets, filling gaps, and reducing barriers faced by residents. Additionally, this role will involve meeting with local neighborhood leaders to help build capacity, services, and programs, ensuring community access to information from these leaders. The Administrative Assistant Community Advocate will also facilitate quarterly community meetings, significantly impacting the community's well-being and development.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative Support
· Assist the Executive Director and staff with administrative tasks.
· Conduct research, surveys, and draft reports, correspondence, and other materials to support SCC operations.
Community Outreach:
· Engage with community members to understand their needs, concerns, and perspectives.
· This may involve attending community events, participating in meetings, or conducting surveys.
Communication and Information Sharing:
· Manage all SCC social media accounts by creating and scheduling engaging content.
· Oversee and distribute the monthly SCC newsletter.
· Deliver press releases and represent SCC in some public forums.
·. Communicate effectively with the public on behalf of SCC, maintaining clarity and professionalism.
· Serve as a liaison between the organization and the community by relaying information and updates about programs, services, and initiatives.
Resource Coordination:
- · This may involve providing referrals, facilitating access to services, or helping with applications.
- · Connect community members with suitable resources and services available within the organization or the broader community.
Conflict Resolution:
· Address conflicts and misunderstandings that might emerge between the organization and the community.
· This includes facilitating dialogue, mediating disputes, and fostering understanding.
Event Planning and Coordination:
· Help organize and host community events, meetings, or workshops to encourage engagement and interaction between the organization and the community.
Qualifications
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Experience in managing social media platforms and creating content.
· The ability to clearly and effectively communicate with diverse audiences, build strong relationships, and foster trust.
· Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of individuals.
· Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
· Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
· Familiarity with community engagement strategies, including outreach, resource coordination, and event planning.
· Experience in non-profit organizations is a bonus.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Physical and Mental Requirements:
· Must be available to attend community meetings quarterly from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
· Occasional local travel may be required.
· Ability to work independently without close supervision.
· Vision must be adequate to read standard text and view a computer monitor.
· Ability to speak and hear enough to communicate in person and over the phone.
· Ability to stand, sit, walk, stoop, and bend routinely.
· Manual dexterity is required to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively when operating the keyboard, writing, etc.
· Sufficient body strength to lift and transfer at least 25 pounds lbs.
