The Freedom School Program Manager is responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of the Kitty Andersen Youth Science Center (KAYSC) STEM Freedom School Program at the Science Museum of Minnesota (SMM) to help engage young adults and elementary aged young people to see themselves as knowledge holders and change makers.

This role will manage and train staff through observation, coaching, mentoring and operational oversight and develop behavioral support plans to identify shared goals that strengthen program quality, increase scholar engagement, and support to ensure that the KAYSC remains a vital resource for community based work.

This is a full-time seasonal position

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and recruit the KAYSC Servant Leader Interns, providing coaching, training and supervision as needed to meet project goals through adherence to the SMM STEM Freedom School Framework, reporting to the Project Director.
  • Documentation and evaluation of the SMM STEM Freedom School programs to align with KAYSC STEM Justice framework and the CDF Freedom School model, while being aligned with the needs and interests of the program participants, KAYSC families and broader community.
  • Work with KAYSC and CDF leadership to recruit children and families that are our most vulnerable populations
  • Work with KAYSC and CDF leadership to plan and facilitate local pre and post training before and after the Ella Baker Child Policy Training Institute National Training.
  • Maintain the safety of all staff and scholars, which includes but is not limited to the following : Secure staff background checks and clearances, Guarantee onsite safety procedures and protocols are in compliance with The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, Communicate and confirm that all staff, scholars, and parents have an understanding of site guidelines.
  • Implementation of KAYSC STEM Freedom School strategies, policies and systems while continuously collaborating with KAYSC leadership to develop new policies and procedures that will lead to increased quality, efficiency, and accountability.
  • Work in conjunction with leadership to check book inventory upon receipt and notify the CDF designee of any discrepancies.
  • Input child, parent and staff enrollment data in CDF's reporting system.
  • Maintain regular communication and timely correspondence with emails and requests with the CDF Freedom Schools national staff.
  • Submit all required documents, data reports, and evaluations to CDF by the required deadline.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience :
  • Previous KAYSC Servant Leader Intern experience at a CDF Freedom Schools site preferred, but not required.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities. Proven management skills to lead and motivate an intergenerational staff.
  • Work Environment :
  • Work schedule involves occasional evenings and weekends.

  • Will be working primarily in the KAYSC offices at the Science Museum of Minnesota with occasional field trips and external meetings. Must be able to transport self throughout the Metro area.
  • Starting Compensation : $23.60 - $25.00 / hour (depending on qualifications)

    Schedule : 40 hours / week (full time)
