Position Summary

$10K sign on BONUS!!!

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for coordinating and supervising the facility’s nursing staff. The DON shall interact with the residents during the shift and assist the residents with functional needs. The DON shall always ensure a safe and therapeutic environment. The DON shall take physician orders, prepare, and administer resident medications, and facilitate outside diagnostic or medical services that are ordered by the physician. This position will serve as the Infection Control Designee.

Position Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

1. Selects appropriate interventions to meet the clinical needs of individual residents.

2. Actively participates and engages residents in the milieu and outside activities throughout the workday.

3. Therapeutically interacts with the resident in one to one-situations, community and group meetings maintaining, appropriate boundaries and modeling appropriate social behavior. Reacts therapeutically in crisis situations.

4. Recognizes resident level of psychosocial and psychosexual development and modifies approaches accordingly to include recognizing mood changes and developing coping skills.

5. Provides introduction as appropriate to other residents and staff.

6. Demonstrates the ability to effectively deal with a variety of group settings.

7. Maintains therapeutic relationship with residents using praise and other reinforcers to encourage appropriate behaviors and attitudes.

8. Assists and monitors residents with ADL, as necessary, and assists and monitors residents in the kitchen and/or with meals.

9. Ability to set limits in a kind and firm manner.

10. Have thorough knowledge regarding facility rules and regulations and maintain consistency in implementation.

11. Provides, structures, and maintain a therapeutic environment in collaboration with other staff.

12. Provides a comprehensive nursing assessment identifying resident needs, problems, capabilities, and limitation.

13. Records and transcribes physicians written and verbal orders. Carries out or delegates STAT orders immediately.

14. Communicates with other clinical team members observations and recommendations for resident’s plan of care, providing input into the treatment team process.

15. Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and brings to the attending physician attention.

16. Documents the administration of medication (including PRN) in according to established policies and procedures.

17. Coordinates all pharmacy and laboratory orders, delivery, and refills with the appropriate vendors.

18. Responsible for the safe keeping of all controlled medications kept in the facility and monitors the administration and accurate recording of use.

19. Administers medications based on physician orders and medication administration record.

20. Provides, structures, and maintain a therapeutic environment in collaboration with other staff.

21. Documents observations in nursing assessment and weekly notes in electronic charting system, Best Notes, in accordance with facility policy in a timely manner. Documentation reflects plan of care outlined in the Master Treatment Plan.

22. Documentation reflects ongoing assessment of resident behaviors and feelings as expressed and are addressed appropriately within the program or with referral.

23. Prepares residents for home pass or discharge through individualized counseling and instruction prior to discharge in a clear and concise manner; providing written instructions if needed.

24. Provides education to residents and families about medications, side effects, contraindications and physical symptoms through individual counseling and group counseling.

25. Provides review of clinical records for accuracy and quality documentation.

26. Assists in the coordination of admissions, transfers, and discharges to provide a smooth and efficient flow of communication.

27. Coordinates facility infection control program: ensuring staff and residents meet policy and procedure requirements.

28. Provides clinical supervision and accountability to nursing staff.

29. Provides flexibility in work schedule to accommodate program/facility needs.

30. Coordinates nursing staff schedule.

Additional Responsibilities

1. Periodically provides presentations regarding program services and participates in tours.

2. Ensures follow up with referral sources following admissions, discharges, and during treatment process.

3. Assists with conferences and marketing activities and facilitates referral development contacts in coordination with the Marketing Team. Attends conferences as requested.

4. Communicates with referents, residents, and families appropriately and effectively. Uses the referral process to build relationships with new referents and engages in collaboration with referents.

5. Acts as team builder that inspires cooperation and progress in team members.

6. Provides adequate staff supervision and escort when residents are away from the facility for any reason (if applicable).

7. Complies with the facility safety procedures as outlined in the policy and procedure manual. Assumes assigned role in fire drills, evacuation procedures and internal/external disaster plan.

8. Monitors and controls availability of hazards and contraband in resident areas.

9. Follows proper procedures and timely preparation of Incident Reports and notifies additional staff if required.

10. Adheres to guidelines of infection control and universal precautions as outlined in the policy and procedure manual.

11. Demonstrates effective verbal intervention skills in managing escalating residents and involving other staff as needed. Adheres to facility restraint policies.

12. Performs a vehicle safety and fuel check prior to use of any company vehicle, reporting any concerns to supervisor or manager.

13. Maintains a safe driving record and transports staff and residents as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

· Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing

· Prefer three (3) year experience as a Registered Nurse. Prefer one (1) year in psychiatric nursing. Knowledge of current nursing procedures, the nursing process, medications, and their correct administration. Must have knowledge of human development over the life span.

· Current CPR certification. Requires valid State Driver’s license and State license as a Licensed Registered Nurse

Physical Requirements

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to communicate with peers/general public, clients and/or vendors

· Tolerant to various noise levels: noise level in the work environment varies – may be very quiet to moderate

· Job performance will require the ability to move throughout the building as well as sit or remain stationary for extended periods of time

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to talk or hear, sit, stand, walk, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste or smell.

· Ability to move up to 25 pounds
