What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAD Drafter/Estimator position at SMP Welding?
This position is responsible for 3D drawing and designing of structural steel assemblies and parts per customer specifications. Completing drawings accurately and in a timely fashion so that production lead times can be met. Engaging with Project Manager to answer questions and coordinating with shop personnel to ensure accurate conveyance of design intent. This position also includes estimating non-structural projects as needed based on workload.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Expertise in AutoCAD and SolidWorks
- Employee needs to be able to create new drawings and assemblies in the above software
- Read & interpret customer provided drawings
- Understanding of how to read blueprints including specifications and elevations
- Create drawings of assemblies and coordinate directly with Project Manager regarding design intent, scope and lead times required
- Submit completed drawings and assembly instructions to Project Manager for review
- Coordinate with Operations team to answer questions about designs, blueprints or assembly instructions
- Develop files and nest plots for plasma cutting per company operating procedures
- Review customer drawings during RFQ phase, estimate and provide customer quote post-management review
- Coordinate with Project Managers and Operations team to release estimated projects to the floor accurately and in a timely fashion per company operating procedures
- Coordinate with Operations team to understand and develop efficiencies of workflow during fabrication phase
- Maintain proper file management procedures
- All other tasks as deemed necessary by company management
Requirements
- Education – Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Preferred experience in the custom fabrication of structural steel assemblies
- Additional Experience – 5 years’ experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD and design work
