Area Site Manager - Mechanics
SMS group Inc. seeks Area Site Manager - Mechanics to work in Pittsburgh, PA, and be responsible for leading the execution of the commissioning and erection of technical and mechanical equipment of SMS plant sub-sections within the scope of supplies and services provided by SMS group as well as overseeing the entire Mechanics area. Specific duties will include: (i) overseeing commissioning activities in coordination with technical and mechanical equipment as well as inspecting equipment to identify cause of errors or defects, as applicable; (ii) conducting worker training in safety, repair and maintenance techniques, operational procedures and equipment use as well as identifying educational needs of others and providing needed information to supervisors; (iii) studying project drawings and taking note for starting site activities in advance as well as interpreting specifications, blueprints or job orders to construct templates and lay out reference points for workers; (iv) making daily/weekly installation plans of their respective area as per project erection schedule as well as the requisition of materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment or replacement parts; (v) determining schedules, sequences and assignments for work activities based on work priority and quantity of equipment; (vi) checking foundations, establishing bench markings, establishing center lines and checking the availability of equipment; (vii) maintaining measuring record during installation phase for each measured equipment and providing expertise on how the equipment is to be modified and maintained; (viii) preparing installation completion documents for equipment and sub equipment in accordance with the drawing; (ix) ensuring or suggesting the right equipment is being used for a particular project having studied the site before starting work on it as well as observing and receiving information from all relevant sources; (x) overseeing projects and making sure these are completed when due as well as developing, implementing and evaluating maintenance policies and procedures; (xi) assisting with site-related order execution; (xii) making safety inspections and ensuring construction and site safety as well as inspecting, testing and measuring completed work to verify conformance with standards and requirements; (xiii) preparing updated progress reports and summarizing problem areas or concerns as well as reporting quality and claims-related events; (xiv) analyzing and evaluating information and results to choose the best solution; (xv) attending client/contractor meetings and working to resolve any issues that arise as well as assisting in scheduling activities and work of others; (xvi) coordinating and working quickly to initiate corrective action as well as directing contractors in performing any necessary changes, revisions or modifications including examining objects, systems or facilities and analyzing information to determine needed installations, services or repairs.
Must possess, at a minimum, five (5) years of experience in the commissioning and erection of mechanical equipment in the steel making industry. Experience must include five (5) years of: (i) using construction monuments and datum; (ii) establishing centerlines; (iii) prioritizing erection sequences; (iv) coordinating delivery, unloading, and inspecting of industrial steel making equipment; (v) managing commissioning and testing systems prior to releasing to operations; (vi) reading blueprints for civil, structural, piping and mechanical equipment; and (vii) erection and commissioning of heat sources including acidic areas and electromagnetic field areas. Experience can be concurrent.
Must know (from any completed university-level courses, seminars, workshops, or real-world hands-on experience): (i) motor and coupling installations (including bearings, gearboxes, hydraulic & pneumatic actuators, piping, and instrumentation); (ii) civil works with respect to equipment anchors, embedded parts, and grouting procedures; (iii) steel erection processes (including foundation safety, positioning of components, structure alignment and bolting-up); (iv) piping erection and cleaning; (v) erecting tools (including cranes, rigging, chains, slings, and jacks); (vi) steelmaking casting; (vii) hot and cold rolling and strip processing lines; and (viii) Theodolites, Dumpy Levels, and Piano wire 3D laser tracker alignment and tolerance requirements/specifications. Experience can be concurrent.
Must be able and willing to travel domestically up to 90% to various unanticipated client locations. Must undergo and pass a pre-employment background check in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
