Senior Mechanical Engineer (Multiple Openings)
SMS group Inc. seeks Senior Mechanical Engineers to work in Pittsburgh, PA, and be responsible for leading the design, manufacturing, maintenance, installation, and modernization of steel mill equipment and technology, specifically our mechanical equipment. Specific duties will include: (i) creating mechanical equipment designs in 2D and 3D CAD for steel mill equipment and technology; (ii) preparing mechanical drawings for the manufacturing of steel mill equipment and technology, specifically our mechanical equipment; (iii) performing sizing of machine components and calculations for mechanical equipment according to free body diagrams; (iv) utilizing the business system (SAP) and CAD system to generate bills of material for steel mill equipment and technology, specifically its mechanical equipment; (v) checking mechanical equipment drawings for design and dimensional accuracy; (vi) preparing technical presentations of steel mill equipment and technology, specifically our mechanical equipment, and presenting to current and prospective customers; and (vii) providing technical site installation, training, and commissioning support for steel mill equipment and technology, specifically the mechanical equipment.
Must possess, at a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, AND at least three (3) years of experience in a mechanical engineering role for steel mill equipment.
Experience must include three (3) years of experience with each of the following: (i) designing metallurgical equipment (including Electric Arc Furnace and Ladle Metallurgy); (ii) designing mechanical components used in metallurgical equipment, including drawing generation for mechanical components/assemblies and conducting validation; (iii) engineering design of steelmaking machinery used in primary and secondary electric steelmaking; (iv) creating and developing of 2D layouts and drawings; and (v) implementing machine shop practices and manufacturing techniques used in the design of large industrial machines. Experience can be concurrent.
Must know (from any completed university-level courses, seminars, workshops, or real-world hands-on experience): 3D modeling software (Creo or Autodesk Inventor); AutoCAD; Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for design and validation of engineering projects; DFMA-Design for Manufacture and Assembly; and SAP business system to process mechanical drawings and generate Bill of Materials (BOM).
