What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Supervisor position at Smurfit Kappa North America?
Accountable for organizing, directing, and controlling the daily operations of all fleet activities and requirements. Additionally, must maintain all outside buildings and grounds.
Primary Duties
- Planning, scheduling, and coordinating of company drivers and equipment with various other company departments, customers, and suppliers to ensure timely and cost efficient pickup and delivery of finished goods and waste paper.
- Maintenance of all company equipment as and when assigned, including contract compliance, regulatory compliance, and operating efficiency (over the road delivery equipment and yard maintenance equipment)
- Safety, selection, training, evaluation, and motivation of all personnel assigned.
- Maintenance of all outside grounds inclusive of lawns, swimming pool, pond, parking lots and roadways, storage pads, buildings, etc.
- Completion of all required paperwork and forms
- Enforcement of company policies and procedures
- Visit the work area frequently to ensure compliance, and discusses safety issues with team. Explains to team that safety excellence is expected and is a requirement of employment. Encourages the team to report incidents, near-misses and unsafe conditions. SWR employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.

- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Driving experience with trucks and lift trucks required
- Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations required
- Working knowledge of dock operations, including dispatching, shipping, and receiving required
- Highly organized
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (verbal and written), dealing with individuals at all levels; comfortable to represent the company in the best possible light, using various means of communication (presentations, customer briefs etc.)
- High energy, with the ability to work in fast-paced environment
- Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate & develop
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer skills
- Self-motivated and committed individual, strong work ethic
- Ability to work with various departments (operations, finance, quality) across plants to resolve challenges
- Capable of building strong relationships internally & externally (e.g. key customers etc.)
- Able to drive team to continuously improve customer relationship(s) and foster good working relationships among the team
- Capable of prioritizing various tasks among team
- Display well developed organizational skills, demonstrate initiative & good judgment
To successfully perform the essential functions of this role it requires the ability to: stand occasionally, walk frequently, frequent use of hands (reach with hands and arms), view computer monitor, use telephone, speak and listen frequently.
