What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laminator Operator position at Smurfit Kappa North America?
Responsible for all activities associated with running the laminator including setup, operation, production reporting, cleanup, cross training, and recommending improvements to operations. The position holder will report to the Production Supervisor.
The Laminator Operator works within a team to operate the Laminator in a safe, efficient and reliable manner. The position holder will follow all pertinent procedures & processes as well as Group Health & Safety standards and rules
Primary Duties
- Set-up laminator accurately in accordance with proper setup techniques.
- Inspect labels before run to ensure that label is to specification, particularly trim and registration.
- Maintain and keep orderly the label storage area. Provide inventories to sales management and accounting.
- Monitor corrugated sheet quality, including, but not limited to, loose liner, warp, and correct size.
- Check glue roll for proper glue application.
- Maximize the utilization of equipment by operating the machinery at available capacity and speed.
- Maintain file of Mylars for registration for repeat orders.
- Train and assist Stacker with job duties on the machine.
- Cross-train on other machines, particularly die cutters.
- Assist with training as needed.
- Complete necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to: Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, Quality Data.
- Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs. Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
- Adheres to production schedule. Makes recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality and service goals. Reports any unusual scheduling issues to Supervisor.
- Additional duties may be assigned by management.
- High school diploma or GED
- Prior work experience in the corrugated industry preferred
- 6 months of experience in the Press or Finishing department preferred
- Ability to read and follow instructions on factory masters
- Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
- Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate.
- Able to apply concepts of high school math.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must have working knowledge of the following:
- Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation.
- Product layouts and production specifications
- Product quality specifications
- Quality standards
- Capable of prioritizing multiple tasks, showing a sense of urgency
- Ability to provide and communicate sound information to management
