What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plant Manager position at Smurfit Kappa North America?
- Accept and embrace full P & L Responsibility
- Operate the business as if it were your own, but within established corporate parameters
- Manage and control all operating costs, including labor, maintenance and repairs, utilities etc. Be tenacious in understanding and managing every expense.
- Ability to build both rapport and respect with the employees, which will drive improved performance
- Meet and exceed assigned production and financial goals. Never accept the status quo, evaluate new processes to achieve business goals.
- Maintain and build upon the facilities established health and safety culture
- Manage all maintenance activities for the plant, vehicles and equipment
- Maintain an effective Preventive Maintenance Program
- Maximize use of in-house resources to complete repairs where possible
- Maintain the facility to Smurfit Westrock standards
- Must excel in a fast paced, multi-directional environment
- Keep detailed and accurate records of the plants many daily functions
- Ability to negotiate pricing and assess the quality of work done by established and new vendors, while ensuring their health and safety
- Possess strong customer service skills, and demonstrate to our customer base "Value beyond Price"
- Flexibility and willingness to take on other projects and duties as necessary
- Visit the work area frequently to ensure compliance, and discusses safety issues with team. Explains to team that safety excellence is expected and is a requirement of employment. Encourages the team to report incidents, near-misses and unsafe conditions. SWNA employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.

- College preferred
- Experience supervising a diverse workforce in a plant, warehouse, or manufacturing environment
- Self-Motivated individual with the ability to multitask
- Excellent communication skills & the ability to positively influence others
- Ability to flex hours as business needs dictate
- Strong sense of urgency, organizational skills, and attention to detail
- Experienced equipment operator a plus
- Mechanical aptitude a plus
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
