What are the responsibilities and job description for the Receiving Assistant position at Smurfit Kappa North America?
The Receiving Assistant works within a team in the warehouse in a safe, efficient and reliable manner. The position holder will follow all pertinent ISO 9001 procedures & processes as well as Group Health & Safety standards and rules. Responsible for accurate physical receiving of materials/ product in order to maintain integrity of inventory control, and insures delivery of materials/product to the proper department. Ensure all proper documents & PO's are in order.
Primary Duties
- Learn relevant local and company requirements, rules and procedures. Strictly follows rules and guidelines and always uses the right procedure for the job. Promptly reports incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions or processes. SKNA employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.
- Schedules all inbound deliveries; ensures purchase order number is on all paperwork
- Receives product deliveries; records and checks quantity and quality of good received
- Conducts a weight sampling of corrugated sheets & rolls; documents result on form provided or spec
- Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages
- Inputs received material into computer system and forwards proper documentation to accounts payable
- Communicates and coordinates with appropriate buyer for product returns/repair
- Verifies and keeps records on incoming shipments: compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records
- Determines method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates
- Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons, using stenciling equipment
- Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers
- Inserts items into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective padding
- Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape, using strapping machine
- Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers
- Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage
- Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies
- Monitors daily cycle counts to ensure all materials are in proper location, both physically & virtually
- Assists with month end inventories
- Follow all safety rules and procedures
- Assists other departments and/or areas as requested by management or supervisor
- Participates in any extra curriculum (training & development) activity deemed necessary by management
- Train other colleagues to pass on knowledge & expertise
- May be assigned to other projects and duties
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3 years related experience or training in warehouse; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Working knowledge of computerized inventory control system
- Basic computer skills for data entry
- Must be able to read, write and speak in English
- Good interpersonal & communication skills
- Highly organized, detail orientated and self-motivated individual (proactive attitude)
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment, learn quickly and follow established processes Good mathematical skills
- - Ability to read tape measure, understand basic algebra, able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, volume etc. (add and subtract numbers, multiply and divide by 10's and 100's...)
- Ability to define problems, collect data/facts (observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources) and draw reasonable conclusions
- Ability to deal with various situations
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Capable of prioritizing multiple tasks and deliver on tight deadlines
- Able to interpret a variety of instructions
- Able to provide and communicate sound information to Management
