What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production-winder helper position at Smurfit Kappa?
The primary function of the Coating Winder Helper is to assist the Winder Operator in the safe day-to-day operation of the Slitter Rewinder. The Winder Helper reports to the Winder Operator on all matters that pertain to the support of the coating line and the slitter rewinder. This position is responsible for filling coating production and ribbon roll orders as required, general inventory and duties as assigned.
Primary Duties
- Learn relevant local and company requirements, rules and procedures. Strictly follows rules and guidelines and always uses the right procedure for the job. Promptly reports incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions or processes. SKNA employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.

- Assist the coating line during high demand periods including, two station coating, employee vacations or absences and heavy weight paper
- Ensure all finished rolls and pallets are labeled, marked and entered into the computer
- Verify cores and rolls are prepared for the Slitter Rewinder
- Threading of the Slitter Rewinder
- Operation of the core cutter
- Notifying the Winder Operator of changing conditions or any problem encountered with a run schedule or quality
- Perform inventory of consumable supplies on a weekly basis
- Operate clamp truck and forklift on an as need basis
- Perform housekeeping as required or assigned
- Perform equipment shutdown and cleanup at the end of the day
- May be assigned to other projects and duties
- Follow all safety policies, and safe work practices
- Comply with all safety signs and PPE requirements
- Listen and learn from any training. Be an active participant in learning a job skill or safety issue
- Ask for assistance if the training or instruction is not clear or you don't feel comfortable in performing the task correctly and safely
- Report unsafe acts and near misses immediately
- Address problems with the Machine Operator ASAP. BUT always try to give solutions to every problem. (You may understand more than the supervisor about the problem and how to fix it.)
- Re-address issues with the Machine Operator on un-resolved topics discussed in the past. (The supervisor may have forgotten about those topics.)
- Be an active member in the safety of the workplace. Participate in Safety Committee Meetings, Safety Meetings, and when trained on a safety issue
- Participate in hazard identification
- All other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- HS Diploma or GED
- One year of warehouse or production experience is desired
- Must have analytical skills and desire to learn new equipment and applications
- Must be able to use Critical-thinking skills to reach running objectives
