The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) is seeking a Senior System Server Administrator to provide IBM iSeries Power10 system administration, security administration, and maintenance for the Non-Appropriated Funds Central Payroll System (NAFCPS).
This position will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of IBM iSeries hardware and software, user account management, security administration, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and software updates. The primary work location is remote, with possible travel to government facilities in San Antonio, TX, and Oklahoma City, OK.
Key Responsibilities:System Administration & Maintenance:
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM iSeries Power10 servers.
- Perform software updates, patches, and backups.
- Ensure high system availability and minimize downtime.
- Optimize system performance and capacity planning.
Security Administration:
- Manage user access, authentication, and permissions.
- Implement and enforce security policies in accordance with DFAS regulations.
- Conduct routine security audits and compliance checks.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting:
- Monitor system performance, identify issues, and implement solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting to development teams.
- Work with IBM support and other IT teams to resolve hardware/software issues.
Collaboration & Documentation:
- Coordinate with DFAS IT teams and stakeholders to maintain system operations.
- Document system changes, processes, and troubleshooting steps.
- Provide training and knowledge transfer to other team members.
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a System Server Administrator.
- Extensive knowledge of IBM iSeries Power10 Servers.
- Strong expertise in COBOL, Navigator i, and other IBM iSeries tools.
- Experience with server performance tuning and system troubleshooting.
- Ability to engage in technical discussions with developers and IT teams.
Security & Compliance:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Able to obtain a favorable Tier 3 (Noncritical Sensitive) background investigation.
- Familiarity with DoD IT security policies and regulations.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in IBM iSeries, AS/400, DB2, COBOL, and system automation tools.
- Strong understanding of networking, storage management, and backup solutions.
- Ability to perform disaster recovery planning and implementation.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team.
- Experience working in a DoD or government environment.
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies and cloud integration.
- Certifications such as IBM Certified System Administrator - iSeries or CompTIA Security .
- Work Location: Remote, with potential on-site work at DISA San Antonio, TX or DISA Oklahoma City, OK.
- Travel: Limited; up to $6,000 per year for approved CONUS travel.
- Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM ET; on-call support required for critical system issues.
