SMX is actively searching for a dynamic and adept AWS Cloud Engineer to be a pivotal member of our esteemed Cloud Services division. Joining our team means collaborating with some of the industry's finest Cloud Architects and Engineers. Our Cloud Engineers are proficient in continuous integration frameworks, maintain seamless communication with team leads and project managers, and are always eager to contribute constructively to the broader SMX community. Candidates should have a rich background in automating infrastructure and operations, bringing hands-on experience in developing solutions that are both cloud-native and automation-focused. This role emphasizes operational excellence, championed by a commitment to quality, articulate communication, client success, and measurable results, aligning with the essential duties and required skills for the position. This is a remote position supporting a Boston, MA based team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
- Cloud Operations Management : Handle events, incidents, and requests based on a defined, ticket-driven service catalog. Infrastructure as Code (IaC) : Develop IaC templates, particularly using Terraform, to establish immutable infrastructure on AWS.
- Service Issue Resolution : Quickly evaluate and address AWS service issues, seeking support from AWS when essential.
- Technical Innovation : Champion technical advancements and efficiencies via automation, orchestration, and Git Ops methodologies.
- Cloud Systems Oversight : Manage the monitoring, updating, optimization, and stability of cloud systems.
- AWS Service Management : Oversee a range of AWS services, including but not limited to IAM, EC2, S3, RDS, EFS, VPC, Lambda, and ECS.
- Resource Provisioning : Assist internal teams in provisioning and ensuring appropriate access to AWS resources.
- Cost Management : Collaborate with the team to gauge costs of new AWS resources, conducting forecasts for AWS architecture expenditure.
- Infrastructure Support : Assist during AWS infrastructure changes during planned maintenance and unplanned outages.
- Cloud Automation : Ensure cloud orchestration and automation functions align with target SLAs, minimizing downtime.
- Customer Interaction and team communication : Follow guidelines from Project Leads or Managers, providing timely updates.
- Troubleshooting : Engage in resolving both infrastructure and application-related challenges.
- Documentation : Generate comprehensive technical project documents and operational guidelines.
- Flexibility : Uphold regular working hours with adaptability to address after-hours maintenance and escalations when needed.
- Team Collaboration : Demonstrate team spirit, adaptability, and high performance in a rapidly evolving environment.
- Issue Ownership : Take responsibility for issues, acting swiftly and decisively when necessary.
- CI / CD Enhancement : Improve CI / CD tool integrations, aiming for full automation of CI / testing, emphasizing Terraform and Git Ops best practices.
- Certification : Pursue and retain AWS certifications to stay current.
