What are the responsibilities and job description for the Afterschool STEAM Teacher for K - 5th Grades in Union, NJ position at Snapology Summit NJ?
Working Location: You will work at one or multiple locations in Summit, New Providence, Millburn, and the surrounding area, based on your preference. This position requires availability as early as 2:30 PM on weekdays during the school year on days of your choice. The working hours during the school year are 2 - 10 hours/week. We offer a sign-on bonus of $200 when the new hire completes the assigned programs for the first school session.
The primary focus of this position will be teaching Snapology STEAM programs, which are conducted for children ages 5 - 12. Curriculums and thorough training are provided to ensure that you are prepared to teach any topic. This role requires collaboration and communication with Snapology management, as well as representing the Snapology organization to parents and children with a high degree of professionalism.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Lead groups of up to 14 students through curriculum-guided activities;
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment;
- Travel to our various partners with class materials ( LEGO bricks, iPads, Laptops, etc.)
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing classroom rules and cleanup procedures; maintain the cleanliness and organization of the class material.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of Snapology;
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies;
- Adequately prepare for each program by reading the curriculum, watching training videos, and/or participating in face-to-face training sessions;
- Encourage students & parents to enroll students in future Snapology programs;
- Participate in periodic Snapology training & staff meetings.
Qualifications:
- one or more years of experience working with children in a classroom or camp environment
- Education degree or teaching experience recommended, teachers, pursuing a degree in education will also be considered for this position.
- STEAM education and Robotics related experience is a big plus but not required.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
- Willingness to travel to various class locations within 10 miles radius
Program Timing:
This position is part-time. Depending on the availability, teachers typically work between 5 - 15 hours per week. Teachers can choose the following programs to teach around their schedules.
- Evening classes and field trips
- Weekend workshops and/or birthday parties
- Special events, holiday and break workshops
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: $35.00 - $55.00 per hour
