Virtual Design Construction (VDC) Coordinator Modeler

A respected Mechanical Contractor in the Birmingham area is seeking a Virtual Design Construction (VDC) Coordinator Modeler, to join their team. The right candidate will be an energetic, self-motivated individual who possesses the skills required to successfully execute project tasks, have the ability to use independent judgment for team problem-solving, and has a strong work ethic as a dynamic team leader.

Essential Functions for Virtual Design Construction (VDC) Coordinator Modeler

Perform System Design of Mechanical duct/piping/plumbing systems

Perform Design/Engineering calculations such as: duct / pipe sizing, velocities, and pressure drops

Recommend Design changes based on industry practice or coordination issues to BIM Manager and Project Manager

Work closely with BIM Manager and Project Manager to obtain project information and ensure drawings are accurate and complete

Understand and follow company BIM/VDC policies, standards and procedures

Prepare Shop fabrication drawings/models from rough sketches, red-line markups or Consultant Engineer plans using BIM software programs (Revit/AutoCAD)

Prepare Shop fabrication drawings according to standards, procedures, codes and specifications

Prepare initial Model set-up using company and project specific standards, procedures, etc.

Visualize and coordinate the graphic presentation of complex areas utilizing Architectural, Structural and other MEP plans

Maintain / Update Models due to Engineer s Design changes, field conditions, etc.

Mentor less experienced BIM personnel, offering suggestions and best practices

Perform Clash reports and generate best conflict resolution for each discipline

Qualification for Virtual Design Construction (VDC) Coordinator Modeler

High School Diploma/ GED and/or Vocation/ Trade School Certificate

Minimum of 1 year s experience with basic use of Revit/AutoCAD or prior field/shop experience

Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks and other design technologies with direct experience using current and prior versions

Minimum of 5-10 years of BIM/VDC Modeling experience

Possess intermediate or expert design expertise in one or more specific disciplines (HVAC and/or Plumbing) to provide BIM documentation through the use of various software programs including Revit, AutoCAD, etc.

Knowledge of BIM/VDC technologies with an understanding of the direction of building information modeling and its impact on the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry

Experience with Cloud based collaboration technologies (BIM360, etc.)

Understanding of office and field workflows

Must apply excellent verbal and written communication skills

Must communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization

Must possess a strong, self-motivated work ethic

Mechanical or Field experience is desired (not required)

Must be able to follow detailed processes and verbal or written instructions
