Applies coats of paint, varnish, enamels, or lacquer to decorate and protect the hospital's interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures, using paintbrushes, rollers, scrapers, and blowtorches. Duties
1. Smoot surfaces using sandpaper, wire brushes, or steel wool and remove old paint from surfaces using paint remover, scrapers, wire brushes, or blowtorch to prepare surfaces for painting
2. Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other fillers
3. Select premixed paints or prepare paint to match specified colors by blending and mixing required proportions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances
4. Paint the surface using brushes, spray guns, or paint roller
5. Simulates wood grain, marble, birch, or tile effects
6. Create special effects by applying paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers
7. Spread cloth or canvas over floors and furniture to protect them from spattered paint
8. May perform any or all of the following : Cute stencils and stencil surfaces with lettering or decorations; paint signs on such surfaces as cloth, bulletin boards, walls, doors, windows, and equipment; replace the door and window glass; paper walls and ceilings; whitewash and calcimine surfaces; do freehand glaze finishes; refinish furniture and fixtures; estimate time and material costs on painting and redecorating jobs; perform minor supervisor jobs as a designate “leader.”
