Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing in managing the nursing department. The ADON helps ensure the delivery of high-quality care to residents by assisting with staffing, policy development, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. They oversee the nursing team, help with staff training and orientation, and assist with care planning and implementation. The ADON also contributes to budgeting, infection control programs, and ensures nursing practices meet safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in Managing Nursing Staff:
Support the Director of Nursing with hiring, training, and supervising nursing staff.
Ensure the appropriate number of qualified staff are available to meet resident needs.
Policy and Compliance:
Help develop and implement nursing policies and ensure adherence to safety and infection control standards.
Monitor and evaluate nursing practices to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
Resident Care and Safety:
Assist in planning and implementing resident care programs.
Monitor and support infection control and ensure a safe environment for residents.
Staff Training and Development:
Coordinate staff education and in-service training programs to enhance staff skills.
Provide ongoing support and guidance to nursing staff to improve performance.
Fiscal and Supply Management:
Assist with budget planning and ensure proper management of nursing supplies and equipment.
Maintain records of department expenses and manage cost-effective practices.
Support for Survey and Compliance:
Help prepare for and participate in long-term care surveys.
Implement corrective actions as needed based on survey findings.
