Job Title: Structural Designer
Job Description:
We are seeking a Structural Designer to develop practical, cost-effective, and fully functional structural designs for a variety of projects, with a focus on foundation design, concrete design, structural steel design, detailing, and steel fabrication. This role requires collaboration with various teams to ensure the coordination of structural designs across all disciplines.
Responsibilities:
- Create complex structural engineering design drawings.
- Apply in-depth knowledge and understanding of structural engineering concepts.
- Stay up-to-date with relevant codes, permits, and software applications within the structural discipline.
- Prepare design drawings based on project specifications and established standards, ensuring compliance with industry practices and procedures.
- Collaborate with structural engineers to support design calculations and verify design integrity.
- Review vendor-supplied documents for accuracy and ensure compliance with project requirements, as well as review documents from other disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with engineering processes, project schedules, and company procedures, with guidance from the Lead Structural Designer and Project Engineer.
- Use judgment and initiative to evaluate, modify, and apply design practices.
- Coordinate with team members in the structural discipline and collaborate with other disciplines on the project.
- Proficiently use structural design software.
- Perform material take-offs and cost estimating for the discipline.
- Understand the project change control process and identify potential changes.
- Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced design and drafting personnel.
- Occasionally serve as a design consultant for other organizations.
Qualifications:
- 10-15 years' experience
- Strong understanding of structural design principles and best practices.
- Familiarity with relevant codes, permits, and software applications.
- Basic knowledge of structural engineering calculations and design processes.
- Ability to review and ensure the accuracy of vendor documents.
- Knowledge of project schedules, controls, estimates, and change control processes.
- Experience with material take-offs and cost estimation methods.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively with other disciplines.
