PARK RANGER BASIC FUNCTION
Performs routine park enforcement of park rules and regulations, intense public contact through unaccompanied foot, bicycle, and / or vehicle patrol of parks to assure security and protection of public property, public safety and the natural environment. Coordinate and supervise seasonal laborers and volunteers and provide routine maintenance of grounds facilities.

Minimum Qualifications
One (1) year of park ranger experience with Federal, State or local government OR any equivalent combination of training, education and / or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Must be a lawful permanent resident or United States Citizen : minimum 21 years of age. Must pass job related tests.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must successfully complete the Skagit Valley Community College Park Law Enforcement Academy : or approved equivalent prior to commissioning.
Employees are required to possess a Special Commission with the Snohomish County Sheriff's office or other approved commissioning agent that restricts law enforcement issues as they pertain to Snohomish County Parks & Recreation, within one (1) year of employment.
A valid State of Washington Driver's License is required for employment. Unrestricted except as to vision, is required prior to appointment.
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid Card / CPR card within ninety (90) days of employment is required.
Must pass pre-employment examinations which may include, but not limited to, a complete background investigation, fingerprinting, criminal record check, polygraph examination, a medical examination and a psychological evaluation.

PHYSICAL EFFORT
The work involves a variety of routine manual labor tasks requiring some strenuous physical effort such as lifting objects weighing in excess of fifty (50) pounds.
SUPERVISION
Employees in this class report to a Senior Park Ranger or Ranger Supervisor. The employee performs the work with considerable independence. Work may be spot checked for compliance with standard procedures and general instructions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The work is performed primarily outdoors in all types of weather. Employees will work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
