As a Heavy Truck Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting solid waste or recyclables and performing routine maintenance. This work is performed at our modern Solid Waste facilities, and you will be provided with everything you need including well maintained and regularly serviced trucks with access to on road support services.
Requirements:
- Class A CDL with medical card
- Two years’ experience operating a tractor-trailer or truck-trailer combination.
This job posting is to fill three (3) Heavy Truck Driver positions position and to create an eligibility register to fill future Heavy Truck Driver positions for the next six (6) months.

STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Drives a tractor-trailer or a truck-trailer combination to efficiently and safely transport solid waste or recyclables.
- Ensures positive engagement between the tractor or truck and the trailer; inspects rig before driving to ensure all equipment and accessories, including transport containers, are in good working condition and can be driven safely on roadway without endangering self or others.
- Safely and efficiently maneuvers truck/trailer in tight quarters around customers, other equipment, along retaining walls, and into top loading and compactor receiving tunnels/bays.
- Performs routine maintenance on assigned vehicle by checking fluid levels and lubricating equipment as necessary; maintains vehicle mileage, daily inspection reports, service records, and other paperwork, as required.
- Coordinates with Transfer Station Operators to efficiently and effectively schedule service where and when needed, including but not limited to ensuring an adequate number of empty containers are delivered and available at each site as needed.
- Communicates with supervisors and other division staff and is pro-active to identify and resolve operational related problems.
- May perform Laborer type duties when not engaged in operating assigned equipment.
- May drive a tractor-tanker combination to haul leachate as assigned.
- May drive a truck with or without equipment trailer combination to haul heavy equipment and/or other materials, as assigned.
- Performs related duties to optimize recycling and support Solid Waste operations as required.
- A valid Class "A" CDL, with medical card
- A valid First Aid/CPR card is required within six (6) months of employment
- A Full Record of your Driving Abstract obtained through the Department of Licensing (www.dol.wa.gov) is required to apply
- A pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
- Register in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation (DOT) Clearinghouse
- Employee will also be placed on the County Random Drug and Alcohol Testing Program, per Executive Order 04-27B "Commercial Driver License Alcohol & Drug Testing Policy, Sec. 7.1"
- Forty (40) hours of riding plus forty (40) hours of driving with a current driver trainer will be required
- Successful completion of a driving test with a Solid Waste Operations Third Party Evaluator
- Must attend the County's defensive driving course within six (6) months of employment; OR, an external heavy truck driver defensive driving course certificate
- A tanker endorsement may be required
