What are the responsibilities and job description for the Terrain Park Manager position at Snowbasin Resort?
The Terrain Park manager is responsible for the design, build, maintenance, innovation and operation of the resort’s terrain parks and mountain bike trails. While creating a progressive, exciting and challenging environment during both the winter and summer months, the Terrain Park manager provides leadership and direction to the “Rails & Trails” team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and direct the efforts of the Rails & Trails team to positively impact the guest and employee experience; create a fun, collaborative environment focused on safety.
- Recruit, hire and train staff; coordinate with team members to facilitate department activities and responsibilities.
- Provide daily oversight and supervision of team members; ensure correct staffing across the department.
- Support and coach team members to achieve desired outcomes.
- Promote safety awareness throughout the department by developing, coordinating and implementing guest/employee focused safety programs; develop a comprehensive multi-year strategy to continue the resort’s journey towards safety excellence.
- Conduct and document staff training related to safety and operations; ensure adherence to applicable safety standards and procedures.
- Assist with the development and implementation of incident reduction and prevention strategies to minimize risk and liability exposure; ensure required signage and terrain markings are current and displayed appropriately.
- Prepare and maintain administrative and operational reports and records; ensure accuracy and timeliness of checklists, logs, employee/guest incident reports and other documentation.
- Establish strong working relationships/partnerships across all resort operations.
- Enact general emergency procedures; coordinate and respond to emergencies as needed.
- Develop and adhere to the department budget.
- Provide direct support to the Mountain Operations team and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience managing terrain parks/bike trails in a ski resort or similar environment; willingness to take a professional, innovative approach to creating the best possible riding experience.
- Strong knowledge of terrain park/bike trail design and construction; familiarity with snow groomers, heavy equipment, welders, chainsaws/brush saws, hand tools and PPE.
- Proven ability to motivate employees around safety and drive engagement.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Aptitude for giving and receiving feedback in a positive manner.
- Ability to pivot and embrace changes to operations when necessary.
- High level of energy and enthusiasm for providing exceptional guest service.
Work Schedule and Environment
- Must be physically capable of working long hours in a mountainous winter/summer environment in varying weather conditions; ability to work in varying terrain, including snow, ice, dirt and rock covered surfaces.
- Weekend, nights and holiday availability required as well as flexibility with work schedule; available on-call as necessary.
- Frequently lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs and perform tasks including, but not limited to, shoveling snow, chipping ice, raking rocks, riding bikes, etc.
Education and Experience
- Demonstrated management/supervisory experience required.
- 3 years resort operations experience or equivalent combination of experience and training/education.
- Experience building features with metal, wood, snow and dirt; welding/fabricating experience preferred.
- Ability to coach and problem solve in an effective manner while building and maintaining positive relationships.
- Advanced skiing/snowboarding/mountain biking skills.
