Job Title: Pump Station Operator
Job Summary: The Pump Station Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of pumps and related equipment at pumping stations. This role ensures that pump systems function effectively, preventing disruptions to service and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pump Operation: Operate and monitor pumps, valves, and related equipment to control the flow of water through the system. Ensure that all systems are functioning properly to maintain flow requirements.
- System Monitoring: Continuously monitor system performance using SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, gauges, and alarms. Adjust operational parameters as needed to maintain optimal performance.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, and electrical components. Identify signs of wear or malfunction and perform repairs or report issues for further attention.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with pumping equipment, including mechanical and electrical failures. Take appropriate corrective actions or escalate as necessary.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety procedures and protocols, including proper handling of hazardous materials, confined space entry, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of system performance, maintenance activities, repairs, and other relevant data. Ensure proper documentation for regulatory compliance.
- Equipment Calibration: Ensure that all monitoring and control instruments are calibrated and operating correctly to maintain reliable system performance.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergencies, such as pump failure, system blockages, or other operational disruptions, to minimize service interruptions.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other operators, maintenance staff, and management to ensure smooth operations and resolve issues quickly.
- Environmental Compliance: Ensure all operations meet environmental guidelines and comply with local, state, and federal regulations related to water systems.
- Equipment Operation: Operate all Sny equipment assigned when not required to be operating the pump station including, but not limited to Tractors, trucks, mowing equipment, trailers, bulldozers and excavators.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in pump systems, water/wastewater operations, or related fields is preferred.
- Previous experience in pump station operations or similar industrial environments is an asset.
- Familiarity with pump station equipment, and basic electrical and mechanical principles.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations in industrial operations, including confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and PPE use.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and physical environments.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with team members and supervisors.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, on ladders, and at heights.
- Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, wet or humid environments, and noisy areas.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time position with shift work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Overtime may be necessary during emergencies or system failures.
