POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Doula services exist to support mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, and after birth to improve birth outcomes and reduce perinatal morbidity and mortality. Doula case managers provide culturally appropriate education and support to meet the unique needs of each participant and her family. Doulas educate participants on birthing options and techniques, prenatal care, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and infant care and safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide information and education, and resources that prepare participant and her family for the birth process and through three (3) months postpartum.
- Assist participant with establishing a birth plan and postpartum plan and provide support for accomplishing goals.
- Attend and support participant and her family through the birth process.
- Conduct at least three (3) home visits with participants in caseload during the prenatal and postpartum periods.
- Maintain positive relationships with community service providers and medical providers.
- Complete initial screening and assessments and HRSA screening tools.
- Refer and connect participant with needed medical, social, and support services.
- Document services provided to participants and keep up-to-date case files.
- Prepare and submit required reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Strong communication skills is key in this role, as doulas communicate with participants, medical staff, and other support people.
- Ability to listen to participants and understand what they want and need.
- Ability to be calm under pressure. Doulas remain calm under pressure, even when labor is challenging.
- Ability to teach and demonstrate relaxation and breathing techniques.
- Ability to work as part of a team to achieve program goals.
- Knowledge of area hospitals to inform participants of available services and to help guide participants through the process of labor and birth.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Organizational and time management skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Doula Certification Required.
2. Bachelor’s degree in social work or nursing preferred, or three to five years work experience in human service or health related field.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature. Frequent local travel by personal automobile is required along with a valid driver’s license and insured automobile.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday dayshift. Attendance for participants’ labor and delivery may require early morning, evening and weekend hours. Attendance at off-site meetings will be required with no overnight stay. Occasional out-of-town travel may be required.

Salary : $20 - $30
