Job Title: SOAR Afterschool Program Executive Director
I. Job Purpose
The Executive Director (ED) of the SOAR After-School Program will lead the organization in fulfilling its mission to provide high-quality, affordable after-school programming that supports hardworking families and ensures that students have the resources they need to reach their full potential. The ED will collaborate closely with the Board of Directors, SOAR staff, and key stakeholders to continuously enhance and expand the program. This role will involve managing key relationships with partner schools, community organizations, government agencies, foundations, and other partners, while driving SOAR’s strategic vision and ensuring sustainable growth.
II. Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in nonprofit fundraising and experience managing large programs. Specific qualifications include:
- Demonstrated success in cultivating individual donors, corporate sponsors, and foundation grants.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit operations, including experience managing budgets of $1 million or more.
- Experience with both state and federal grant management, including knowledge of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) grant program, is preferred.
- A background in working with children and families, particularly those facing economic challenges.
- Experience in strategic planning, delegation, and time management.
- Ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders, including staff, community members, and government officials.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including experience handling crucial conversations.
- Experience working with the Department of Human Services (DHS) Licensing System and advocating at the state and federal legislative levels is a plus.
- A bachelor’s degree is required, with a passion for education and experience in the nonprofit sector.

III. Responsibilities
The Executive Director reports directly to the SOAR Board of Directors and will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following key areas:
Vision & Strategic Planning
- Lead the development and execution of SOAR’s long-term strategy, working in close collaboration with the Board of Directors and Director of Operations.
- Oversee and drive the expansion and continuous improvement of SOAR programming at current and future partner schools.
- Establish and refine key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of SOAR programs.
Fundraising & Development
- Work with Development Director to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support SOAR’s mission and financial sustainability, including soliciting major gifts (Top 10 Gifts)
- Work closely with the Board to identify and approach potential sponsors, donors, and funding partners.
- Cultivate relationships with existing and potential major donors, foundations, and government funding agencies.
- Secure grants and sponsorships through research, writing proposals, and completing necessary documentation.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Program & Budget Management
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of all SOAR programs, ensuring high standards of quality and effectiveness.
- Ensure budgetary accountability, managing a program budget of $1M, and ensuring the efficient use of funds.
- Monitor financial status, identify needs, and work to maintain fiscal health.
- Management of state and federal grant funds
- Supervise program staff and provide ongoing support for staff development and performance.
- Conduct yearly audits for finances
Human Resources & Operations
- Collaborate with the HR & Operations Manager to develop and oversee staff policies and compliance with federal/state employment regulations
- Coordinate with the HR & Operations Manager to update employment contracts, policies, and vacation addendums
Community Engagement & Relationship Building
- Serve as the face of SOAR within the local community and build strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including schools, government agencies, foundations, and community organizations.
- Advocate for SOAR’s mission and work at the state and federal levels, representing the organization in key legislative discussions.
- Strengthen SOAR’s connections with partner organizations, including Camp War Eagle and the Alice L. Walton Foundation.
Cultural Leadership
- Foster a positive organizational culture that promotes family, celebration, and growth
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the successful operation and growth of the SOAR program.
