Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, install, repair and maintain all floor coverings (carpet, vinyl, marble, stone, slate, ceramic, floor tile, etc.).
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform all facets of flooring repair and replacement including demolition, prep for new flooring and installation.
- Read blueprints, project close-out documents and manufacturer literature to evaluate flooring replacement selection materials.
- Interact with supervisor to identify material stock levels of flooring materials and related repair supply levels.
- Assist supervisor in responding to flooring work requests by evaluating repair versus replacement, and selection of proper flooring material for the respective work environment.
- Assist supervisor in planning of flooring work projects by assisting with project cost estimates, identifying the size of work crew, estimating project timeframe and identifying project impact on operations and guest service.
- Obtain reference data from specified manufacturer requirements for materials being used including GHS sheets, cleaning and care specifications and ordering information.
- Ensure all work adheres to proper safety procedures, including but not limited to, barricading work area and proper usage of chemicals and adhesives.
- Interact with housekeeping staff on manufacturer recommendations of how to clean and care for flooring materials.
- Practice SECR Hospitality Rules with every internal and external guest.
- Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

- Contact and interact with all vendors to discuss products and application techniques.
- Contact with other departments to discuss flooring projects and their completion.
- Contact with other Facilities associates for large projects and coordination of flooring projects.
- Contact with guests in a professional manner to ensure their experience is positive and upholds the service excellence standards of the Casino and Resort
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Three years of experience in a flooring installer position or five years of experience in a building maintenance position with carpentry/flooring responsibilities.
- Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
- Must have a valid Michigan Driver`s License and must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Driver`s License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
- Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
- Knowledge of installing, repairing and maintenance of various floor coverings and adhesives.
- Knowledge of a variety of carpentry equipment operation such as saws, planers, routers and assorted power tools.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
- Knowledge of safety codes and procedures.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction and maintenance of flooring.
- Skill in using logical reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternate solutions.
- Skill in effectively communicating issues, concerns, solutions in a concise manner.
- Ability to work with various flooring removal equipment, hand and power tools.
- Ability to read building codes and layouts, construction drawings and blueprints.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to use hand tools and equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
- Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer and repair equipment.
- Required to stand, walk, and kneel for extended periods of time and reach with arms and hands.
- Occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to complete tasks under the following work environments: Dirt and dust from project work areas; wet and damp areas; and cramped and close work areas.
- Working conditions may also include: Working with hazardous bonding chemicals; extended work hours to complete assigned projects; and schedule changes to minimize project impact on operations/patrons.
- Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions including extreme hot/cold and to lift, carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials
- Exposure to hazardous stains, lacquers and other chemicals that require respiratory protection.
- Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
- Evening, overnight, holiday and/or weekend work may be required.
- Travel may be required.
- Frequent walking and standing in a smoking environment and contact with the general public. Constant visual stimulation via neon lights on slot machines, repeatedly changing machine video screens, static or flashing signs throughout the casino and constant machine and crowd noise.
